Hiring Equipment

Smiths Equipment Hire endeavour to make the experience of hiring and using equipment as simple and straightforward as possible. Our friendly and helpful staff are used to customers who aren`t sure what equipment they require. We give all the help and advice you will ever need.

General Conditions

Equipment is hired only on the terms and conditions printed on the reverse of the customer copy of the contract / delivery note. Which is in accordance with the Hire Association Europe's:
Conditions For Hire and Sale of Products Copies of the conditions are displayed at every Smiths Equipment Hire branch.

Basis of Charging and the Hire Period

  • First Day - 24 Hours inclusive from actual time taken;
  • Second Day - 48 Hrs inclusive from actual time;
  • One week - 7 Days;
  • After 1 weeks hire a daily charge of 1/5th of the week rate is charged;
  • Equipment fitted with an hour meter is hired on a 5 day 40 hour week basis;
  • Extra hours charged at 1/40th of the weekly hire charge per hour;
  • Where prices only show 1 weeks hire this is a minimum.

Credit Accounts

We will be pleased to open a monthly trading account on request subject to satisfactory references being received.
Please print off & complete this account application form. Accounts can be opened within 24 hours of receipt.

Value Added Tax

All prices are subject to VAT at the appropriate rate.

Deposits and Identification

For non-account customers a deposit may be required. We will also ask for 2 forms of identification from unknown customers. Both forms of ID should carry the hirers name and address, a Driving licence and a current utility bill are ideal.

Reservation of Equipment

We will be pleased to reserve equipment for customers either over the telephone or at the branch.

Delivery Service

We offer an efficient vehicle delivery and collection service for our equipment, which a nominal charge is made, dependant on distance.

Off-hire

All requests for off-hire must be made directly to the depot and not to the rep. A unique, random off hire number will be issued for every request directly from our hire system and logged against the hire contract. The off hire number only confirms the request to off hire and cease of hire charges it is not an end to the customer`s responsibility. Only a signed off hire note confirms this.

Damage and Cleaning

We accept fair wear and tear willingly, but damage or loss caused by negligence or total loss by theft or misplacement will be charged to the hirer. A cleaning charge will be made if equipment is returned in a dirty condition.

Hireguard Insurance

As members of the HAE (Hire Association Europe) we are in a position to offer comprehensive insurance cover for equipment in your possession whilst on hire. For a small percentage of the net hire charges you are comprehensively insured against loss or damage anywhere in the United Kingdom from the moment you take possession of the equipment to the moment it is handed back and a receipt is signed.
